New Zealand-born Ruth Sharkey, herbalist, homeopath, hypnotherapist and radio commentator, was practising on the Gold Coast for many vears and treated over 8,000 patients.
Widowed at the tender age of 24 with three children, Ruth had to start a new life. After seven years alone, she married Dennis Sharkey and had another child."The family started to explore new age concepts, the old religions, the spiritual awareness that was always present, and natural medicine," Ruth said.
On their farm north of Auckland the Sharkeys tried to develop their own Findhorn garden, which became one of the first organic market gardens in New Zealand.
Ruth and Dennis and their adult family moved to Australia in 1982. Ruth started to further her studies of naturopathy but switched to herbalism, homeopathy, and hypnotherapy to enable her to treat the mind, body and the spirit. Natural hormonal balancing with homeopathics and herbal medicine became her specialty.
Ruth was a member of the National Herbalists Association, the Academy of Hypnotic Science, and the Australian Traditional Medicine Society.
Ruth and Dennis retired in 2004 and are living in Tasmania. She and Dennis hand-picked internationally renowned therapist Stacey Roberts to continue their legacy.
