1) internet/mail order requires a consultation which includes a letter that summarises your progress, answers your questions, gives any additional advice, and lists queries that require your attention. plus your herbal formula.

2) Internet Webcam Face to Face appt: requires a free skype account and webcam. We then schedule an appt time and our therapist calls you online at that time from our computer to your computer and you see each other live via the webcam. Generally a 500ml size formula is ordered with each consult and the cost is $55.00 plus gst for each. (GST FREE IF NOT IN AUSTRALIA) This will last approximately six weeks.

Example: Single consult with herbs New: 175 plus 55.00 (plus gst) herbal formula plus shipping and handling (AUS or US dollars depending on where you reside)

second consult single/individual $90 consult plus 55.00 herbal formula plus shipping and handling,

third 85.00 consult plus 55.00 (plus gst) herbal formula and so on until 70 per consult is reached. If formulas are ordered with more than 3 months between orders then the returning patient fee applies because the therapist is required to go over your past information and will give you a longer appt or spend more time on your information to make sure we are all up to date. This usually adds 30min more to your consultation.

Example: Double(2 partner): New first consult $245 (AUS or US depending on where you reside) plus 2 herbal formulas (110.00 AUS plus gst (or USD gst free if out of Australia) plus postage and handling,

The consultations fees will be decreased by 10 dollars each time you come back as a couple, until this reaches 120.00 AUS or US.

If formulas are ordered with more than 3 months between orders then the returning patient fee applies due to the therapist requiring more time to review whole chart and updated information.

250ml bottles are utilised in the first trimester unless given other instructions by your therapist. The cost for a 250ml bottle is $44.00 Plus gst for each. A 250ml bottle will last approximately three-six weeks, depending on the dosage advised by your therapist.

A one litre bottle is utilised when you are in the maintenance phase of the program. Your therapist will advise you when a litre is appropriate. A litre will generally last for three months.

Consultations for nonfertility clients are $95.00 AUS (if you reside in AUS or New Zealand or 95.00 US if you reside outside of Australia or New Zealand) for an individual and reduce by $5.00 with each session until you get to $70.00 AUS or US. The fee then stays steady at $70.00 AUS oR US per consult unless there is more than 3 months in between consults. If more than 3 months inbetween consults then returning patient fee applies. This is $90.00 for a single consult.

I don't live in Australia can I still utilize your program?

Yes. We have helped people in over 30 different countries around the world and we would love to work with you too. We also have a consultant in the USA.

Your options would be

1) consultation only which can be done as a mail order (comprehensive letter sent discussing our assessment and suggestions) or

skype webcam consult only (face to face via the internet skype and a webcam)

2) Consultation with herbs either via skype webcam or mail order as discussed above. We would make an individualised formula for you based on the information you provide. this is a liquid formula. We will recommend any tablets or vitamins that can be sourced in your home country to decrease postage costs for you.

All charges outside of Australia and New Zealand will be the same amount in US dollars.

Yes. We have worked with individuals and couples all over Australia. We have also helped people in over 30 different countries around the world.

If I am a returning patient (have had herbs in the past) do I have to pay the same fees as a new patient?

We would love for you to resume your program with us. If you have been away from the clinic for more than 3 months then you would be considered a returning patient and be given a discount on your first consultation back with us. The returning patient fee schedule is as follows: lst returning visit single consultation $90.00 2nd returning visit single consult: $85.00 and this decreases each time by $5 until you reach the $70.00 mark. Returning patient double consultations are: lst returning patient double consult $160.00 2nd returning patient double consult $150.00 and this decreases by $10.00 each time you come in to the clinic until you reach the $120.00 dollar mark for a double consultation. This then stays at $120.00 consistently. If you return within 3 months then you continue on the same plan you were on previously. Herbs are 55.00 plus gst for a 500ml bottle which lasts for approximately 6 weeks.

What are the postage costs?

Postage varies depending on whether you order express post or normal post. Your order form will confirm this for you. Generally speaking, one bottle of 500ml regular post within Australia is $10.50 and express post of a 500ml bottle within Australia is $15.50.

Two bottles of 500ml formula or 1 litre bottle (if approved by your therapist) will be 18.50 shipping and handling.

Two 500ml bottles or one litre (or any product purchase over $100.00) will automatically be sent express post so that this package can be tracked to allow for safe arrival. REFUND /Cancellation policy

We are happy to cancel your order if it has not been processed by a therapist yet. Once it has been processed, i.e. letter dictated and formula made there will be no refund provided. You have 5 days to cancel your order from the date it was received. Once your order has been charged to your credit card there is no refund available. If the order has not yet been charged but the therapist has already done the consultation, and the formula not yet made up, then you will only be charged for the consultation fee incurred by the therapist reviewing your materials and dictating your letter. Therefore if you are thinking about ordering a formula before an upcoming procedure please make sure you will receive the formula atleast 3 months before any procedure is scheduled. Please take in to consideration New patient orders can take up to 5-6 weeks to process.

REFUNDS of ebooks: Due to our ebooks being in digital format we do not provide refunds for ebooks, but instead will provide an in store credit if the request is received within 2 weeks of the purchase of the ebook.

Do You Know Someone Who Claims to Be Associated with Us?

I hope that through our service and this website that you get the impression that I really care about you and am an advocate for you getting the best possible information to improve your situation. It has recently come to my attention that there are naturopaths and other people claiming that they are in some way associated with us or that they follow our same protocols. If this person is not located at our clinic in Nerang or not listed on this website in the FAQ section they are not associated with us. I have no problems with people seeking out help from other naturopaths because there is surely plently of work to go around but I want to make sure that you know what you are getting and that you are not lured into utilising another person's program because they say they are associated with us. There are some excellent professionals out there that stand on their own feet and give excellent care. There should be no need for someone to lie and claim association with another organisation if they themselves provide a quality program. Who are the therapists that work for Sharkeys?

Stacey Roberts, PT, MH, owner of the clinic has over 18 years experience working with patients in the hospital and clinical setting. Stacey currently sees patients at the clinic and handles the mail orders.

Amanda Trieger BS naturopathy is working in the clinic and sees our patients for naturopathy consultations and massage.

Kim MacDonald ATC, MPT, ND is currently handling mail/internet orders. With over 15 years in the field of health care, Kim is helping our patients create their dream.

Meah Robertson Adv Dip, BS is a naturopath at the clinic in Nerang. Currently on maternity leave til mid 2009.

All our therapists go through an intensive training program before they are allowed to work with any patients in order to provide you with the best possible feedback and information.

Are mail orders/internet reimbursed by insurance?

We have not found any insurance company willing to reimburse for mail order or internet orders. Therefore our therapists who do mail order only and mail order for initial consultations do not have a provider number and your mail order will not qualify for insurance reimbursement. If you would like to come in to the clinic for a face to face consultation, however you can schedule with a therapist who has a provider number which means you can receive a rebate from some insurances (check with your insurer to see if this is included in your policy). Please let us know if this is important to you while you are scheduling your appointment and we will do the best we can to schedule you with a therapist who has a provider number for you insurance. Only face to face consultations are reimbursed by insurances.

Does the questionnaire give you enough information about me or do I need to send in anything else before a formula can be made?

The questionnaire gives us a lot of information about your medical and family history, and generally is enough for us to start with. If you have recent test results etc. these can be helpful, so please send them in as well, either via fax or through the website. Please let us know in your questionnaire in the additional information section whether you have sent any additional tests, so that we can check to make sure we have received everything from you.

Do we need to fill out a separate questionnaire for each person wanting herbs?

Yes please.

I am worried that an email will not reach you safely; can I send it by fax as well?

You are welcome to send your information to us in whichever way you feel most comfortable, but we ask you to send it just once. If we receive your information many times (fax, email and/or post) it increases the possibility of confusion and possible double files, formulas and billing for formulas prepared and/or sent. It is best to simply contact the clinic to confirm your correspondence has been received.

Can herbs and drugs be used safely together?

It does of course depend entirely on which drugs are used but, generally speaking, there are herbs that have been shown to be safe to utilise with certain medications. A professional and experienced herbalist or naturopath would be familiar with what herbs are to be avoided when utilising certain medications.

How long does it take for the order to get to us once we send our information in?

If you are a current patient meaning you have received formula from us in the last 3-4 months, we ask you to allow up to twenty-one days for delivery. NEW Patients who have not received formula from us before are receiving their orders within 3-5 weeks. Returning patients (have not ordered a formula in over 4 months are receiving their orders within 3-4 weeks.

Consultation only for new patients can take up to 3-4 weeks and reorders for patients ordering within 3 months of their last consultation usually take 2-3 weeks.

How do you send the parcels?

We send all parcels within Australia surface mail via Australia Post, and provide their Express Post service for our interstate patients and ANY PRODUCT order over 100.00 (it can sometimes take another three weeks for surface mail to travel across the country).

International parcels we generally send airmail via EMS/Australia Post. If you would prefer a door-to-door courier (advised for some countries) or another method please contact the clinic at janet@sharkeyshealingcentre.com

I am starting an IVF procedure next month; will this be a problem?

Do you have three months before your next procedure:

As the herbs are blended to bring the body into balance it is better if you can be on the herbs for at least three months before starting any procedures, as the fertility drugs can have a marked effect on some people. If you are already booked into a procedure, let us know so that we can choose the appropriate herbs and we strongly recommend that you are on the herbs 3 months before the procedure as this is the minimum time frame to allow the herbs a chance to have a positive effect on your system due to the growth and maturation of the follicles which will be available for your assisted procedure.

If you are having a procedure and do not have the three months to be on the herbs we have designed a program to help you meet your needs. I wanted to put together the best program for you at the best possible price. For those of you who read my tips regularly you know I don’t try to push any particular products in my emails. I share creation stories not only about those who are on our individualized herbal formula but also creation stories from others who have shared their stories. Over the years however I have been asked by couples trying to do everything they can to improve their outcome with IVF if they can use the herbs with less than 3 months before their procedure. What will you be sending me?

Generally we send a 500ml bottle of herbs to take twice daily and, if needed, supplementation as well. You will also receive a letter from us to let you know what we feel your progress is, and what changes you may need to make to help improve your situation.

Can I use the herbs with the IVF?

Yes, your herbs can be adjusted so they are appropriate to utilise along with IVF. Some doctors are not comfortable with the use of herbs and IVF due to the inadequate information that they have received about herbs and how they work to optimise the body. BEcause the therapists at Sharkeys Healing Centre work extensively with IVF clinics in Australia they are familiar with what is appropriate to take with IVF if the physician and the patient are comfortable with this. Remember, the herbs work to normalise the body and the drugs can produce certain effects. Therefore as you will see in the ebook there are certain herbs that I would tend not to use with IVF and therefore your formula should be adjusted accordingly when you are undergoing a procedure. Generally speaking though, the herbs could actually help your body to cope with the side effects of these drugs.

Do herbs contain hormones?

No. Some herbs contain phyto-oestrogens (plant-steroids), but these are not the same as human hormones. Homeopathics are sometimes used to balance the system. Your therapist will communicate with you and let you know if they feel this is appropriate. Because a homeopathic preparation is thousands of times less concentrated than any synthetic medication you would take, the idea is to encourage your body to do what it is meant to do on its own.

Are the herbs you give out safe to use if I fall pregnant?

Because the herbs are formulated to help procure a pregnancy there is nothing in them that will harm a baby or the mother; we are qualified herbalists and naturopaths and therefore know which herbs are, and are not, safe for this purpose.

I took my temperatures a few months ago; are these okay for you or do I need to do some more?

Your therapist will ask you to complete charts as well; however, if you do have some other recent charts it can be helpful to be able to compare them if you wish to send them in.

Why do we have to fill in temperature charts?

Women experience significant hormonal changes throughout their cycle. With female conception care, the therapist asks you to complete the charts to find out how your hormones are improving each month, and she then uses the charts to know which herbs to choose when adjusting your formula. Remember, charting your temperatures is very important for the therapist to adjust your formula so that it is specific to your situation, but it is only one piece of the puzzle and is not the be-all or end-all to determine whether or not you can become pregnant. It is simply an excellent tool to help us help you achieve the results that you want.

Do your therapists help with general health complaints or only fertility?

All of the therapists at Sharkey's have been trained in Ruth Sharkey's successful systems in regard to fertility and we also treat people with other issues as well. At Sharkey's we are equipped to help you improve your health naturally for a variety of issues.

Is it possible to see Ruth Sharkey for a consultation?

Ruth and Dennis Sharkey have now retired and are no longer seeing any patients. Stacey Roberts was hand-picked by Ruth to continue her work and now runs the centre. All the therapists at Sharkey's are trained by Stacey, who in turn was trained by Ruth. Over the last 4 years after Ruth retired, Sharkeys has nearly doubled the number of pregnancies and births per year to almost 500 per year. Do you know any doctors that are happy with your herbal remedies?

On our website in the Fertility tips section we have a list of doctors from all over Australia that have been recommended to us by our patients because of their comfort level with natural therapies. The doctors listed have given us their permission to be listed on our website. Look under the tip "Doctors that our patients have recommended"

Do you have other clinics apart from the one in Nerang where we can come to see you?

Not at this time. We encourage all patients if at all possible to come to the clinic in Nerang (central Gold Coast) for their first consultation. This is not required, but preferred. We have trained therapists from the US and will be opening clinics in the US by 2007.

How long will I need to stay on the herbs?

It depends on what you are asking for assistance with and how long you have had the complaint. Generally speaking, it takes up to six months to balance the female hormonal system.

Can you help with male fertility complaints as well?

Yes, generally we can. Many men usually are told that there is nothing they can do if they have a low sperm count, poor motility, increased abnormals or clumping of the sperm. However men on our program have seen improvements in all of these areas. Male Fertility Solutions is an ebook and audio on the topic of How to Improve Male Fertility.

We also have a specific supplementation program designed for Male Fertility if you do not want to utilise the herbal formula or if you would like to improve the antioxidants in your systems to enhance your cellular health. Remember the semen and sperm are made up of cells.

What do I need to do when I need more medicine?

When you are about two-thirds of the way through your bottle of herbs we ask you to send in a written request for more herbs, along with your charts; a letter letting us know how you have been emotionally, physically and mentally; and an update on your partner if we are looking after both of you, so the therapist can make all the necessary adjustments to your formulas. Please make sure that you give specific information about the changes that you have noticed since taking the herbs and ask any questions you may have. Orders received without a written request for more herbs, without a temperature chart, without a letter detailing progress, and/or payment details will delay processing.

Can I get a repeat of the same formula when I order again?

Generally no. Every six weeks your therapist will adjust your formula based on the changes throughout your cycle. If you order a repeat formula it is likely that you will delay the results and increase the costs in the long run. Allowing us to adjust the formula to your specific situtation improves your chances to progress more steadily and improve your health overall. If you are approaching the maintenance phase of treatment your therapist may advise a repeat from time to time but it is always important that you inform us of any change in medications or supplements.

Do you use a lot of vitamin/mineral supplements?

Depending on the patient we may suggest a back up to the formula with certain supplements, but we do not believe in taking heaps of vitamins. It is always important to eat a healthy diet first and utilise supplements as a "supplement" to your diet when necessary.

We believe in individualising a supplementation program and layering this in overtime. However some patients want everything right up front so this can be accomodated if the therapist feels it is appropriate.

I am already seeing a natural therapist for other reasons but they cannot help me with fertility. Can I go on your herbs as well?

We prefer you not to be taking herbs from two different therapists as this can be confusing for the patient and if some side effect does occur it is difficult for either therapist to assess the cause. More herbs are not necessarily better.

Do I have to go on a special diet with the herbs?

We do suggest diet guidelines for healthy eating. These guidelines are tailored to the individual situation.

Do I have to stop smoking to go on the herbs?

We will ask you to stop all forms of smoking and recreational drug use, as there is ample evidence to show that chemicals will affect the health of the sperm and egg and its development. Smoking increases the risk of miscarriage, SIDS and lung problems in the child, and can produce underdeveloped, sickly babies. It also reduces testosterone, can affect thyroid function and causes sperm defects.

What about coffee and Cola drinks?

Coffee if possible should be cut from the diet of both parents when trying to conceive. This includes caffeine-reduced coffee - especially if methylated chlorine has been used to extract the caffeine. We also suggest you remove Cola-based drinks when preparing for conception - these contain caffeine and phosphoric acid which can affect phospholipid and calcium absorption. Coffee contains caffeine and chlorogenic acid, which can increase homocysteine levels. Elevated homocysteine levels have been correlated with miscarriage and contribute to decreased health of the egg and possibly the sperm, not to mention being directly related to heart problems. Cola drinks can also affect polycystic ovaries, as they can increase insulin production, contributing to too much insulin or insulin resistance. Make sure you drink plenty of fresh water.

Why are costs for patients outside of Australia & New Zealand the same amount in US dollars?

If a consultation charge is 90.00 this will be 90.00AUS if you live in Australia or New Zealand OR 90.00 US if you live anywhere outside of Australia or New Zealand. Another example would be formula costs, if this is 55.00 plus gst in Australia dollars, for orders outside Australia and New Zealand this would be 55.00 (no gst) US dollars.

The reason for this is that when we decided to reach out to other countries we began to have advertising expenses (in Australia and New Zealand we have never had to advertise because it has been all word of mouth) in addition to expenses in US dollars to pay our consultants overseas. This increases our costs for overseas customers dramatically.

We do only charge our exact cost or less than our cost for shipping to other countries to try and decrease the burden of high shipping costs overseas. We also try to source supplements for people in their home country whenever possible to help decrease your shipping costs as well.
