It is true to say that the soul gains contentment from a healthy, contented, well-balanced mind and body. The physical body obtains perfection from a balanced diet, regular exercise and proper hours of sleep. The mind needs peace and quiet, along with regular times of healthy stimulation to survive and flourish.
Even though they develop independently of each other, it is very obvious that when one is disturbed in any way there is an immediate reaction to the overall health of the other two bodies - proving that all three need each other to be well and strong to give us a life that is full of 'living' rather than one that is little more than just being 'alive'.
Some say that the soul grows through the lessons it learns via the mind and body, and as it advances it seeks out harder and harder lessons for itself to master. If this is true, it does in part explain why there are some people who seem to have harder lessons in their lives than others.
All of which is interesting, but how does one develop a healthy complete awareness in today's world with all its noise, pollution and stress. We all know that in this day and age it is becoming increasingly difficult to find the peace of mind that the soul cries out for.
This is the reason why so many of the old religions and medical practices have been resurrected. The soul, mind, and physical body feels comfortable with the old familiar ways. It is rather amusing to think that concepts and therapies are labelled 'NEW AGE', when in fact they are in many instances older than our methods of recording time.
There is also a school of thought that advocates that one must reach a certain level of development or sublime spiritual growth before one can fully understand the concept of spiritual awareness. The students of these philosophies maintain that one must have a guru to teach them how to reach this stage. There are many so-called 'new ways' open to us from so many different gurus, who would teach us how to achieve health and harmony, that it is difficult to understand why we are not all perfect beings.
Could it be that we are maybe unable, or unwilling, to identify with our own true nature and look squarely at the world and our particular insignificant place in it honestly? Perhaps we don't want to see that we are in fact all equal in 'consciousness' in the sight of God. The difference between being 'alive' and 'living' is being 'conscious' of what is happening around us and, in most part, participating.
This 'conscious awareness' was not created by man, nor can it be destroyed by him. It is self existent with all creation, all life, and is the most essential element to the physical, mental, and spiritual growth and development of mankind.
We live in exciting times as we all struggle to come to terms with new freedoms, yet more and more people are seeking the old ways of healing and meditation. Could it be that this new-found freedom of thought has cleared the way for the soul to be reunited and acknowledged as part of the body? For so long this part of man has been controlled by dogma and false beliefs; maybe it is time it was brought out into the light of day.
Maybe we are not a physical thinking body with a soul, but a soul that exists to experience 'conscious living' in the body.
Could this be why we get well on medicines that are alive and get sick when the mind and body are fed on dead food and negative thought? Modern science is only just beginning to study the effects of a negative environment on the mind and physical body, yet the ancient healers knew the physical body would benefit and be healed if it could be quiet and still the mind. They perfected this to provide us with the wonderful legacy of meditation, yoga etc., as an art form and as a form of discipline, to train the mind and body and thus help it to become balanced, which in turn provides the necessary times of contentment for the soul.
