From The Good Life August 1994
The hysterectomy, instant menopause, or how to catch up with your mother and grandmother in one easy operation.
Certainly the most effective form of birth control, reputed by some to be one of the most commonly performed operations in Australia.
No, I am not anti-hysterectomy, or any other kind of surgery; I am fully aware that there are cases where this surgical procedure is the only option available to the patient. Often, however, the patient simply does not know how she can help herself to maybe prevent, or just delay the operation until she is older, or, in some cases, stronger, which will help her cope with any side effects like the hormonal imbalance which frequently follows.
In my clinic I used herbals and homeopathic remedies, backed up by minerals and sometimes vitamins. All medications were blended individually, so it was extremely important to have as much information as possible regarding current symptoms, stress levels, dietary habits, and family history, in case there was an inherent factor that should be taken into consideration.
When a woman visited me with her diagnosis suggesting a hysterectomy, I requested she ask her doctor for copies of her blood tests, including hormonal readings, scars, and bone density printouts, as well as the names of all current prescriptions etc., as these were invaluable to me when choosing herbals.
