Dysmenorrhoea

Chaste Tree

Period pains or cramps - whatever term is used to describe the distress some women suffer as 'normal' with the monthly cycle - are totally unacceptable.

For centuries women have used herbs to alleviate the symptoms of hormone imbalances, which is the most common cause of the problem. Ruth has concentrated her research over the years on hormone balancing and all complaints relating to hormone production. Her knowledge has enabled her to help thousands of women find relief from the dreaded monthlies, including moods, and aches and pains.

Cramp Bark

Another very effective way to assist with the painful problems that can occur with periods is by using aromatherapy. Oils that are particularly beneficial are chamomile, clary, cypress, jasmine, juniper, marjoram and lemon balm. The essential oils can be used in different ways: placed in a burner and left in the bedroom before retiring and then extinguished before sleep; a few drops in a hot bath; blended with massage oil for a relaxing massage; and drops on a hankerchief and left on your pillow before sleep (be careful not to use too much or leave it too long as staining can occur and so can headaches).

In Ruth's books Natural Conception and Healing the Bodies there are many herbs listed - for example, Agnus Castus and Dong Quai - that can be used as home cures, as well as medical drugs to help dysmenorrhoea and the cause of the pain.
