Twelve Point Plan for Conception Care
- Clearly, both parents are involved in conception and therefore they should both prepare their bodies prior to their attempt to conceive.
- Mother and father need to look seriously at their diets and reduce those foods likely to contain excessive amounts of preservatives and artificial colourings.
- Consider the basic diet our grandparents had, and aim for simple good food. This should eliminate the need for vitamin and mineral supplements that can be overdosed.
- Coffee if possible should be cut from the diet. This includes caffeine reduced coffee - especially if methylated chlorine has been used to extract the caffeine.
- Organophosphates pesticides can affect foetal development, so fruits and vegetables should be washed and, in the case of carrots, peeled if they are suspected of containing residual sprays.
- Stop all forms of smoking and drug use. There is ample evidence to show chemicals will affect the DNA of the sperm and egg development. No risk is worth it when a baby's life is involved.
- Avoid alcohol in all its forms.
- Reduce Cola-based drinks - these contain caffeine and phosphorous which can affect phospholipid and calcium absorption.
- Remember, being a responsible parent involves many sacrifices. If the above restrictions are difficult, keep trying - baby will appreciate a healthy start in life.
- Without disrupting the whole lifestyle use extra care when using toxic products i.e. paints, glues, herbicides, pesticides, and household cleaning products.
- Improving the overall diet and health should help other existing medical problems, thus providing an opportunity to reduce medical drugs that can sometimes affect fertility i.e. steroids, diuretics, hypertensive and cholesterol medications.
- Make sure there is plenty of fresh water consumed.
