Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Ginseng

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) presents with a wide variety of symptoms, ranging from physical exhaustion, aches and pains, flu symptoms, appetite extremes, bowel irregularity, and food sensitivity. Some sufferers of the syndrome become intolerant to sounds, light-sensitive, and have visual distortions. Emotional disturbances can also develop, leading to an inability to concentrate, confusion and forgetfulness, and depression as the condition fails to respond to medications.

The one common thread associated with patients of CFS is a history of a viral infection, with extreme stress! Some cases, although, have been reported as having developed after flu vaccinations, which suggests that the sufferer simply didn't have the necessary immunological strength to cope with the sudden need for immune response.

Stress of any kind weakens the immune system, putting extra demand on the adrenal glands. Therefore, any treatment of the conditions should include help to eliminate the original stress that weakened the body. At the same time, herbs and homeopathics should be given to strengthen the endocrine glands, especially the those that are inherently weak.

Gotukola

In my book, Healing the Bodies, I have explained how the endocrine glands work, and how an inherently weak gland can put greater pressure on the immune system. For those who would like to know more about it, this book is available through public libraries, good bookstores, and of course through the clinic.

In the short term, immediate help that you can obtain from your local health food store includes: B-complex vitamins, Spirulena, and Ginseng - Siberian or Korean - as long as there are no blood pressure problems.
